Will you join us in Augusta on May 4?

Thursday, May 4 is a critical day for wildlife conservation in Maine. Can you join us in Augusta for this important day of action?

state houseGSThere are two crucial parts of the day:

  • In the morning, it’s Conservation Lobby Day, where supporters of conservation in Maine will gather together to learn about and develop lobbying skills and share their conservation values, priorities, and concerns with their state legislators.
  • Starting at noon, we will Rally for Solar to protect and expand access to solar power in Maine.

Here’s what the day looks like:

  • 8:45am: Check-in at the Cross Cafe (Ground floor of the Cross Building, 111 Sewall Street in Augusta) and get breakfast with fellow conservationists.
  • 9:00am: Welcome from Maureen Drouin of Maine Conservation Alliance (MCA); overview of priority issues and lobbying tips from Beth Ahearn of MCA.
  • 9:30am: Head to State House to speak with state representatives about your top wildlife legislative priorities. Maine Audubon’s Staff Advocate Evie deFrees will be available to provide personal guidance on what to say and how to speak with your representative.
  • 11:30am: Regroup to share and discuss your experiences (and eat) in the Cross Cafe.
  • Noon: Join friends and neighbors on the west side of the Cross Office Building to rally in support of expanding and protecting access to solar power in Maine (bring homemade signs showing your support).
  • 12:45pm: Walk a very short distance to the Energy & Utilities Committee room (Room 211 of the Cross Office Building).
  • 1:00pm: Attend the public hearing for Rep. Seth Berry’s solar bill, LD 1373. Stay for a short time to simply show your support or long enough to speak up in favor of the bill.

If you can make it to either or both parts of the day, please let our coalition know by registering for Conservation Lobby Day and by registering for the Rally for Solar.

This should be a great day, and an important opportunity to demonstrate a broad base of support for these pressing issues.
