Action Alert: Support clean water for Maine wildlife

The session is nearly over, which means that very soon the full legislature will vote on bond bills — including two very important bonds that will support wastewater and road infrastructure improvements vital to keeping Maine lakes, rivers, streams, and coastal waters clean.

Please contact your legislators and encourage them to support LD 178 and LD 1510.

Here are the details:

  • LD 178 would authorize a proposed $5 million bond that would target nonpoint source pollution (think road salt and fertilizer) by improving road infrastructure. Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) administers this existing grant program that has a proven track record of providing jobs, increasing public safety, and improving water quality.
  • LD 1510 would authorize a proposed $50 million bond that would fund wastewater infrastructure and water quality grant programs. Maine has an estimated $1 billion backlog of sorely needed improvements — the Maine DEP has not had a wastewater bond on the ballot in nearly 10 years.

There are a lot of competing bond bills and a message from a constituent will go a long way toward making these important bills stand out. Please ask your legislators to invest in Maine’s wastewater and road infrastructure for the benefit of Maine’s wildlife and Maine people by supporting LD 178 and LD 1510.

Thank you for doing your part!
