Supervisor: Foundation and Donor Relations Manager
Maine Audubon is a nonprofit conservation organization based in Falmouth, Maine, whose mission is to conserve wildlife and wildlife habitat by engaging people of all ages in conservation, education, and action.
The Grant Writer works with the Foundation and Donor Relations Manager, and program staff to prepare grant applications, preliminary applications, letters, contracts, cooperative agreements, reports, and other written materials to cultivate and secure funding from foundations and state and federal funding agencies. Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, have the desire to take initiative and be able to manage numerous projects simultaneously. This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week.
- Draft high-quality documents including but not limited to grant applications, reports, letters, and supporting documents.
- Research and synthesize data and cite sources accordingly.
- Attend and participate in appropriate internal and external meetings with staff, collaborators, and funders.
- Provide assistance with grant prospect research and the matching of specific organizational needs with the priority focus areas of potential funders.
- Assist with post-submission and award set-up functions as needed.
- Track applications, maintain records, and assist with scheduling functions related to grants, contracts, and reporting.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with Development Department and program staff.

- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in obtaining grants from private and public and corporate funders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and research abilities.
- Familiarity with conservation and / or education issues a plus.
- Aptitude for high volume production writing.
- Solid computer skills are essential; including the ability to conduct online literature reviews, proficient use of electronic grant portals, database navigation, and use of Microsoft Office.
- Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic budget preparation abilities.
- Ability to interpret and follow donors’ instructions and requirements.
- Strong organizational and time management skills—ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, effectively prioritizing work and tracking and meeting deadlines.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Standard office equipment such as computer, copier, phone, etc.
