Meet Eliza Donoghue, Maine Audubon’s new staff advocate

One of Maine Audubon’s key roles in the state is to advocate for policies that are good for Maine’s wildlife and habitat. Our staff advocate leads that critical and sensitive work, operating in Augusta and around the state in support of the organization’s priorities.

We are excited to announce that, beginning this fall, Eliza Donoghue, Esq., will be joining the Maine Audubon team in that role, serving as our Senior Policy and Advocacy Specialist. Eliza succeeds Jenn Burns Gray, who departed this spring following 20 years of championing Maine’s wildlife and habitat at Maine Audubon.

Eliza comes to Maine Audubon with extensive experience at and familiarity with the Maine State House, the Land Use Planning Commission, the Land for Maine’s Future program, and the extended network of legislators and stakeholders involved with environmental policy in Maine. Eliza also has broad experience connecting with local community members, and organizing and supporting grassroots activists.

Most recently, Eliza served as Forests & Wildlife Policy Advocate & Outreach Coordinator for the Natural Resources Council of Maine, working as lead lobbyist on land conservation, public land management, and forestry policy issues. Among other accomplishments, Eliza played a central role in the campaign to designate and defend the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, leading efforts to mobilize support for the Monument among local community members and others from around the state.

A graduate of Vermont Law School, Eliza has also worked with the Conservation Law Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, and the Office of the Maine Attorney General. She is a native Mainer and lives in Brunswick with her family.

Please join us in welcoming Eliza to the Maine Audubon community!
