We are pleased to announce that Kate Lewis, CFRE, has joined the Maine Audubon team as our Director of Development.

Kate is an experienced nonprofit philanthropy professional, working over the past two decades in Maine and New England on a range of fundraising and community-building projects. Most recently, she served as Greater Portland Landmarks’ first Director of Development, where she spearheaded efforts to establish an endowment, worked with board members to promote planned gifts, and successfully doubled the number of major donors and overall supporters.

Prior to that, Kate spent 12 years as a philanthropy consultant with Maine-based Demont Associates, helping her clients connect with donors and run successful capital and major gifts campaigns in support of their missions. Among other projects, she directed the Second Century Campaign for the Green Mountain Club in Vermont, raising $5.3 million while maintaining an active membership of nearly 10,000 people. Kate is also a past president of the Boards of both the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Northern New England, and the South Portland Land Trust.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the Maine Audubon team,” Kate said. “My passion for responsible stewardship of communities and the environment aligns perfectly with Maine Audubon’s education, conservation, and advocacy focus. I am thrilled to be able to help with the important work of helping this storied organization find many future successes statewide.”

Kate also currently serves as City Councilor for District 2 in South Portland, where she has focused on defending public health protections, protecting open space, and promoting affordable housing. She lives in South Portland with her family.
