Honoring our friend and colleague Carroll Tiernan this weekend

Last summer, we lost Carroll Tiernan. Carroll managed the Maine Audubon Nature Store for over 30 years. Her kindness, dedication, and knowledge made her a Maine Audubon fixture, and she continues to be deeply missed.

Carroll was an enthusiastic presence at Maine Audubon’s Peony Bloom and Ice Cream Social every year.

This coming weekend, there are two special events taking place in honor of Carroll. All are welcome:

  • On Friday, June 22, from 5-7pm, we will be dedicating the Carroll J. Tiernan Meditation Garden at Gilsland Farm. We will gather at the top of the hill for the dedication, and will go down afterwards to see the garden. Light refreshments will be served.
  • On Sunday, June 24, Gilsland Farm will be stop on a “volksmarch” — a type of walk of which Carroll was especially fond. Beginning at Village Park, participants can choose a 5k or 11k route. The shorter route culminates with refreshments at the Gilsland Farm peony garden; the 11k route will stop in before continuing into Portland.

Carroll loved peonies. Her memory will also be with us at our annual Peony Bloom and Ice Cream Social event this Wednesday, June 20.

Update: Executive Director Andy Beahm shared a couple photos from the dedication:
