Following a competitive national search, the Maine Audubon Board of Trustees has selected Andy Beahm to serve as the next Executive Director of the 174-year old wildlife conservation organization. A former Maine Audubon board member and chair, Andy has been serving as the organization’s acting Executive Director since January 2017.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring Andy into this role permanently,” said Board Vice Chair Stacy Stitham, who led the search process. “Wildlife conservation in Maine needs Maine Audubon’s leadership now more than ever. With a career-long track record of effective leadership and a deep and demonstrated commitment to Maine Audubon’s work and mission, Andy has proven he is the right person to lead this organization at this critical moment.”

Beahm joined the Maine Audubon staff in the summer of 2016 as Deputy Director following 34 years in a variety of executive leadership roles at L.L. Bean. Most recently, Beahm served as L.L. Bean’s Vice President of Business Transformation, where he helped direct a company-wide operational improvement process. He has also served variously as Vice President of Internal Audit, Vice President of Brand Services, and Director of Strategic Planning. Among his many accomplishments at the industry-leading retailer, Beahm managed a strategic review that prompted L.L. Bean’s retail expansion from Freeport to over 40 cities.

In addition to his corporate experience, Beahm has worked extensively with nonprofit organizations in Maine. He has served as board president for the Cancer Community Center and Greater Portland Big Brothers/Big Sisters (of which he is a founding trustee). Beahm has also served as a trustee for the Pine Tree Boy Scouts Council, Portland Nordic, and has volunteered in multiple capacities for the United Way. He is a native of Aroostook county, and lives in Falmouth.

“I am thrilled to be stepping into this role at an organization I have revered for so long,” said Beahm. “In Maine, our environment is at the core of who we are and all we do, and Maine Audubon understands that better than anyone. Our work connects people to nature and helps them become better stewards of our state’s invaluable wildlife and habitat. I am honored by the opportunity to work in this new capacity with our dedicated board and talented staff.”

“Maine Audubon has a rich and storied history, but its best days are ahead,” Beahm added. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of that.”
