In addition to advocacy at the state level, Maine Audubon closely monitors federal public policy that has implications for Maine’s wildlife and habitat.
Maine Audubon and our members frequently speak out on federal issues, which can have a major impact in Maine. Issues like the effects of climate change do not adhere to state boundaries, after all.
One major piece of federal legislation we are currently tracking is the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2018. Very real efforts to undermine the important protections it has afforded birds for the last century make this a top conservation priority — particularly during the “Year of the Bird.” We are working with our partners at the national level to defend this and other critical federal environmental protections.
