MEDIA EVENT ADVISORY

PORTLAND, Maine - October 11, 2006

Gubernatorial Candidates to Debate Environmental Issues at Public Forum

Thursday October 12, 2006
at the Eastland Park Hotel, Portland

WHAT:

Environment 2006: A Candidates’ Forum.

This free public forum will give candidates a chance to address questions on a wide range of environmental issues including clean air and water, climate change and energy, wildlife and habitat conservation, ocean policy, and North Woods and forest issues. It will be rebroadcast over the radio stations of MPBN.

A similar forum in 2002 attracted more than 500 people, sending a strong message to gubernatorial candidates that the environment matters to voters in Maine.

WHEN & WHERE:

7 p.m., Thursday October 12 at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland (doors open 6:30 p.m.)

WHO:

All Maine gubernatorial candidates whose names will be on the ballot have been invited to participate. Governor John Baldacci, Pat LaMarche, Rep. Barbara Merrill, and Sen. Chandler Woodcock have confirmed as of Oct. 10.

Casco Baykeeper Joe Payne will welcome the audience and MPBN’s Susan Sharon will moderate.

Environment 2006 is hosted by Maine Audubon, the Maine Conservation Voters Education Fund, The Nature Conservancy, the Natural Resources Council of Maine and the Northern Forest Alliance as well as over 30 additional organizational sponsors.
