Live Wolf Program and Apple Day Celebration
Highlights of October Maine Audubon Events
FALMOUTH, Maine, October 6, 2008— From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 18, Maine Audubon will hold its 21st annual Apple Day festival at Gilsland Farm. Two days later, on Monday, October 20, Maine Audubon will host two evening programs at 4 and 7 p.m. with live gray wolves at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth.
Apple Day—October 18
A family day of celebrating the season, Apple Day is free and open to the public. Festivities include cider pressing, craft demonstrations, local storyteller Learnin’ Vernon, face painting, live music with the Sea Slugs, an apple pie contest and awards for homegrown pumpkins. We’ve got lunch covered, too—baked goods, soups, sandwiches and more will be for sale.
The Maine Audubon Nature Store will be open for shopping, carrying a unique range of bird feeders, nature-related field guides and books, children’s games and toys, Maine-made gifts and Audubon apparel.
Live Wolves—October 20
In the wolf programs, participants will learn from Montana biologists about wolf myths, folklore and facts such as behavior, habitat and restoration efforts.
“It doesn’t matter how old you are, this program is pretty captivating,” said Eric Hynes, Maine Audubon staff naturalist. “Seeing a wolf up close is simply incredible and learning more about the important role these animals serve in the environment as well as many cultures just heightens that experience.”
Editors and reporters: this program offers plenty of interesting visuals if you would like to attend—call (207) 781-2330, ext. 241.
Each wolf program is $15/adult, $10/child for Maine Audubon members or $18/adult, $12/child for nonmembers.
The first program, from 4-5 p.m., is suggested for families with children ages 8 and younger. The second program, from 7-8:30 p.m., is suggested for families with children ages 9 and up.
Advance registration is necessary; please call (207) 781-2330, ext. 215, Mon-Fri, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
