Maine Audubon Board of Trustees Names Officers, New Members

FALMOUTH, Maine, September 24, 2008—The Maine Audubon Board of Trustees has recently named officers to serve one-year terms and appointed four new members for three-year terms. The officers and new members hail from Cumberland, Falmouth, Hallowell, Portland, South Freeport, South Portland and Windham.

The board’s leaders have shown a longtime commitment to conservation.

A graduate of Yale College and University of Chicago Law, board President Karen Herold lives in Cumberland, where she shares a love of the outdoors with her husband, Marc Isaacson. Vice-President Susan Shane of Falmouth is an avid birder and painter who wishes to use her experience and knowledge to foster understanding and appreciation of the natural world. A CPA of over 16 years and devoted supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Portland, Treasurer Jeff Skaggs lives in Windham. Secretary Francesca Galluccio-Steele, who lives in Portland, incorporated environmental education into classrooms for 27 years as a school administrator.

The four new members to the Maine Audubon Board of Trustees come from a range of professions and experiences.

Bob Cleaves of South Portland is managing director of Stratex Energy LLC and manages a national consortium of renewable energy companies. Co-founder of Portland’s School Ground Greening Coalition, Laura Newman of Portland has focused her work on bringing nature into school environments through service-learning projects. Jeff Pidot of Hallowell has formerly served as chief of the Natural Resources Division of the Maine Attorney General’s Office and as executive director of the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission. With a distinguished career at major national retail companies, Fran Philip of South Freeport is now chief merchandising officer for L.L. Bean.
