PORTLAND, Maine, February 6, 2008—Contemporary designer Angela Adams has partnered with Maine Audubon this month in an effort to educate and bring awareness about the beauty of nature in Maine. On display in the windows of the designer's Portland store are the new angela adams Birch rugs along with taxidermy-mount animals loaned by Maine Audubon. The featured species are still found in Maine and include a bobcat, a beaver, an eastern coyote, a black bear cub and a snowy owl. All of the animals used for mounts died accidentally, primarily in vehicle collisions, or of natural causes. They were retained and mounted for educational purposes. Some date back to the early 1900s, and were acquired from the Portland Museum of Natural History when it merged with Maine Audubon. “Nature is the most inspiring element in creating our designs,” Adams said, explaining why she has chosen to highlight Maine Audubon's work for conservation in Maine. "We have a responsibility as a business to help bring awareness, appreciation and preservation to this important part of our world." In conjunction with its window display and a dedicated Audubon section, the store will host two educational presentations at its location at 273 Congress Street in Portland: David Sparks of Sparks Ark, February 16, 1 p.m.–2 p.m. Eric Hynes, Maine Audubon staff naturalist and manager of the environmental center at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth, February 23, 1 p.m.–2 p.m. The events are free, but have limited capacity for attendance. Please RSVP by February 13 for David Sparks and February 20 for Eric Hynes. Call (207) 774-3523. ABOUT ANGELA ADAMS angela adams
