2006 Camp SeasonA total of thirty scholarships were awarded for summer 2006. Ten went to Maine Conservation School – nine boys and one girl! Twenty went to Tanglewood 4H Camp –the largest group since 2000. No applications were received for Hog Island Youth or Adult programs for summer 2006. Maine Conservation School atBryant Pond
Maine Conservation School teaches a series of basic outdoors skills. Here's what some of our campers enjoyed the most: "I really liked the mountain hike.". "I learned what to do if I get lost. The food was good and I had a lot of fun.". "I liked learning about making shelters.". "I learned how to use a safety kit in the woods."
"We played T-rescue with the canoes today.". "I really liked building debris huts and carving spoons.". "I liked carving, firemaking, night hiking and especially the eating.". "I really enjoyed fire building and canoeing. I made a good fire."
"I had so much fun at Conservation Camp.I learned about the forest, hunter and boater safety, and what to do if you become lost. I recommend this camp to anyone who would like to learn about wilderness, but have fun at the same time. Thanks." Maine Audubon Hog Island
2005 Merrymeeting Summer Scholarship Winner shares her experiences at Maine Audubon's Hog Island Camp. Hog Island Camp Merrymeeting Audubon annually offers three residential ecology camp opportunities - Maine Conservation School at Bryant Pond Forest or Greenland Point The Chapter Board and Members express heartfelt thanks to all who help fund these scholarships.
