Warbler Days at Evergreen Cemetery and Capisic Pond, Portland

Experience Portland’s Evergreen Cemetery and Capisic Pond, two of the best places in southern Maine to see a wide variety of songbirds during spring migration at very close range—particularly warblers.

Viewing of more than 20 species of warblers, including Blackburnian, Cape May, bay-breasted, mourning, and Tennessee are possible, along with southern “overshoots” worm-eating, yellow-throated, and cerulean warblers.

On the dates below, a representative from Maine Audubon will lead a walking tour to identify birds.  If you have binoculars and a bird guide, bring them with you.

When:  May 5-23, 2008

Time:  7-9 a.m.

Where:

Mon, Tues, Wed and Thurs dates - Portland's Evergreen Cemetery (672 Stevens Avenue).  Meet at the back of the cemetery by the ponds.

Friday dates - Portland's Capisic Pond (Macy St. just east of the Capisic St. bridge).  Meet at the parking area there.
