One great way to spend a spring weekend is to take part on a Maine Island Trail Association (MITA) annual island clean-up. Again this season Maine Audubon is joining MITA for their Muscongus Bay clean-up, the location of Hog Island Audubon Camp and many of the special places enjoyed by participants at the camp’s many programs. This two-day activity includes an optional overnight on Hog Island for up to 12 volunteers. Food will be potluck and there is no charge for participating.
The goal of the cleanups is to remove as much human-generated debris as possible to protect wildlife and preserve the aesthetic character of the islands. To sign up, email Brian Marcaurelle at stewards@mita.org or call 207-761-8225 x104. .

Visit us at Hog Island this summer!
A landmark of environmental education since
1936, Hog Island Audubon Center's residential programs educate adults,
children, and families about coastal wildlife in Maine and beyond. Our
sessions are based on a 330-acre island in midcoast Maine's beautiful
Muscongus Bay, and they're led by some of the nation's most-respected
naturalists and environmental educators.
Hog Island is authentic Maine.
Awake to a chorus of woodland birds and lobster boats puttering in the bay. Spend days exploring fragrant spruce forests, fern-filled meadows, and rocky tide pools teeming with marine life. Evening presentations begin as the sun sets over the bay. More about activities.
Hog Island is natural and delicious!
People love our natural setting and rustic
19th-century buildings. You'll stay in a room furnished with two twin
beds or in a dormitory, all with shared bath. Meals are announced by
the clang of a dinner bell. Everyone eats delicious, nutritious meals
served family style. Most sessions include a fresh lobster feast.

Husband and wife Jason and Laura Guerard will be launching a new Hog Island program this summer aimed at bringing families closer together during a week of birding. The powerful effect of birding on Hog Island is a subject the couple knows well—after all, it’s how they fell in love. Read their story here. |
