Making
Maine's Roads Safer for Wildlife
What
We're Doing to Make Roads Safer
In Maine, there are 23,000
miles of public roads bisecting wildlife habitat, not to mention miles
of private subdivision and local roads. Fortunately, Maine Audubon
is taking the lead in making Maine’s roads safer for wildlife.

Maine Audubon Showing of Film on Impact of Highways on Wildlife
Plan for Green Spaces not Grey Spaces
Maine Audubon will be showing the hour-long independent film Division Street, that explores the impact highways have on wildlife, at several locations in Maine.
The film, an official selection of the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival, produced by Eric Bendick, shows how highways prevent wildlife from moving from one green space to another, and presents remedies, including footage of successful wildlife road crossing projects in North America. The film underlines the need for proper transportation & development planning to give wildlife access to natural habitats. It is appropriate for any age and is as visually appealing as it is substantive.
Jessie Mae MacDougall, Wildlife Program Assistant with Maine Audubon, will present the film and lead the discussion following, concentrating on the impact roads have on wildlife in Maine. She will also provide details on the proposed bill "Maine Climate and Energy Planning Act," LD 1333, now pending in the State legislature.
For more information contact Jessie Mae MacDougall at Maine Audubon in Falmouth, 207 781-2330, ext. 235, or by email at jmmacdougall@maineaudubon.org. You also may call the host location for logistical information.
