Do You Know about Living in Loon Territory?

Maine Audubon has just received funding from the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund to reprint 40,000 copies of Living in Loon Territory - and we need your help to get this important guide into people's hands. This educational brochure highlights boating and shoreline laws designed to protect loons and other wildlife, as well as ways of identifying loons and their habitat, a loon "calendar" highlighting what loons are doing throughout the summer, and actions boaters and other lake-users can take to decrease or eliminate potential negative impacts from their activities.

Maine Audubon first published the brochure in partnership with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in 2002 and saw an overwhelming success.

We are looking for help in getting this new batch of brochures out to the public. If you know of lake associations, government agencies, civic groups, sporting clubs or any other group that has an interest in lakes and wildlife, please call Susan Gallo at 781-6180 ext. 216, or e-mail sgallo@maineaudubon.org. The brochures will be printed later this winter, and will be available for distribution by March, so more people can spend the summer of 2008 successfully "living in loon territory." Thank you for your help!

"Maine's Majestic Loons" Slide Show

Would your civic group or lake association like to know more about loons living in Maine, their habits, natural history and the threats they face on Maine's lakes and ponds?

Maine Loon Project staff have a dynamic slide show with stunning photographs, loon calls and up-to-date information about the status of Maine's loons and the threats they face.

The show runs between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on the time available.

Donations to the Maine Loon Project in the amount of $75 are requested for the show. If you or your group is interested in scheduling a slide show, please call 781-6180 ext. 216.
