2009 Maine Loon Project Photo Contest61 photographers from states all over the nation submitted over 200 entries to our first ever Loon Photo Contest. The competitive field of entries testifies to the strong interest in loon conservation and nature photography in Maine. We received hundreds of "People's Choice" votes online and at our centers, and our panel of judges are pleased to announce these winners:
First prize (in both the Juried and People's Choice categories): "Mother and Chick" by June Le Duc of Charlton, Massachusetts. Photographed on Wilson Pond, Greenville, in the summer of 2006. Second prize (in both the Juried and People's Choice categories): "Nurturing" by Kerry Woodbury of Bangor. Photographed on Philips Lake in Dedham in the summer of 2009. Third prize (Juried): "Dancing Loon" by June Le Duc. Photographed on First West Branch Lake, Shawtown Twp., in the summer of 2009. Third prize (People's Choice): "Autumn Strut" by Pam Bliss. Photographed on Kezar Lake, Lovell, in the summer of 2009.
