Forests & Forestry

There are three parts to our forestry program: 1) identifying and protecting wildlands, or areas of conservation interest, 2) promoting sustainable forestry practices both in and surrounding wildland areas, and 3) supporting healthy, economically diverse local communities.

New forest-management strategy concentrates on specific species to develop habitat

Maine Audubon, the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine, the Professional Logging Contractors of Maine and the Maine Forest Service are cosponsoring a series of forestry workshops at several locations across the state. Useful for small woodlands as well as large tracts of timberland, focus species forestry is based on the fact that many species inhabit similar forest types and have overlapping habitat requirements. more
