Priorities
Ahead
Maine Audubon's finalized a strategic plan in 2002 that identifies
six priority areas to guide the organization's work for the next
five years.
Wildlife Conservation
Concentrate Maine Audubon's science-based
wildlife conservation projects on the native species and habitats in
Maine that are most at risk of harm. Increase public awareness of Maine's
diverse wildlife and public involvement in habitat conservation.
Education
Broaden Audubon's geographic and demographic
reach in Maine by increasing the diverse and engaging environmental education
programs Maine Audubon offers and by making the best use of communications
technology and Maine Audubon's chapter network and partnerships
with schools and organizations.
Environmental Centers and Sanctuaries
Manage Maine Audubon sanctuaries
and centers according to quality environmental standards and clearly
defined criteria for adding and divesting property. Collaborate with
chapters and others to expand the presence of Audubon properties in Maine
and to increase opportunities to promote wildlife conservation statewide
and help people learn about and enjoy the natural environment.
Visibility
Increase Audubon's visibility throughout Maine via
comprehensive marketing and communications strategies and appealing print
and electronic material that present to broad constituencies Maine Audubon's
conservation and education priorities and achievements, as well as its
membership benefits.
Financial Sustainability
Expand and diversify financial
support through an array of fundraising strategies, improved program
profitability and
additional earned income, while maintaining responsible spending and
prudent financial management and reporting practices.
Infrastructure
Grow Maine Audubon's organizational
resources and improve its operational efficiency by updating office technology,
expanding
its headquarters building, enhancing management and board processes to
support volunteers and staff and strengthening the alignment of local
chapters and the state and national office.
